The Universal Catholic Church, of which we are a member, is a communion of <a href=\"https:\/\/eriecountybyzantines.org\/?page_id=1169\">23 churches<\/a>, including the Roman Catholic Church, the Byzantine Catholic Church,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eriecountybyzantines.org\/?page_id=1169\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1169\">and others<\/a>. The churches are in full communion with each other and are distinct from Orthodox Churches, which are not in full communion with the Universal Catholic Church<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"109\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/eriecountybyzantines.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/crucifix.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-843\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-9eeeec86-af0d-4a63-876e-0457d0e4aeaa\">A &#8216;Rite&#8217; is a liturgical tradition that describes the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the Eucharist and other Mysteries (sacraments), and the general spiritual life of the Church. Within the Catholic Church,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eriecountybyzantines.org\/?page_id=1165\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1165\">six distinct rites<\/a>&nbsp;are celebrated; among them are the Latin Rite and the Byzantine Rite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-4858fb68-bdf3-485c-bbfa-38e120c10b3f\">Note that many Orthodox Churches celebrate the Byzantine Rite of spirituality.
